Looking for the Institute of Brownfield Professionals (IBP)? Anticipating a market-driven demand for qualified brownfield professionals, leaders of ASFE established the IBP in 2004 as a separate organization to develop and administer the Registered Brownfield Professional designation and to provide continuing education, so clients would have a credential to rely on when searching for brownfield professionals. Unfortunately, the demand did not materialize, and the effort was not sustainable in the challenging economic conditions, so the IBP closed at the end of 2009. However, ASFE, a highly successful, well-respected 40-year-old organization, remains interested in brownfield issues. In fact, the organization has recently undertaken a comprehensive, incisive look at itself and is reemerging with a new name (ASFE/The Geoprofessional Business Association), a new purpose (Maximize the geoprofessions’ importance and value to the marketplace), and – most importantly for brownfield professionals – a new strategic plan that includes the reinstitution of its Environmental Committee. This effort is just beginning. To learn more about ASFE and the Environmental Committee activities, please visit ASFE’s home page and the Environmental Committee page. If you would like to get involved, please contact ASFE Executive Vice President John Bachner at john@asfe.org or 301/565-2733 to discuss how you can do so most effectively. |
